Traditional Owners have the right to restore and reclaim custodianship of native plant knowledge, practices and resources, to ensure the native foods and botanicals sector is a culturally safe and appropriate industry bringing social, cultural and economic benefits.

Traditional Owners have a right to lead Victoria’s emerging native food and botanicals industry.

This industry can benefit the Victorian economy, sustain the health of Country, and bring cultural, social and economic benefits to the Traditional Owner groups who have managed and cared for native plants for millennia.

The Federation supports Traditional Owner groups to restore and reclaim custodianship of native plant knowledge, practice and resources through our advocacy, convening and facilitation.

Underpinning this work is the native plants strategy developed by Traditional Owners in a process facilitated by the Federation, which sets out the planning, investment and collaboration needed to ensure to ensure Victoria’s native foods industry is authentic, culturally safe, and in line with Traditional Owners’ ambitions.
