Lake Boort’s cultural and spiritual significance has been known and recognised for decades – yet its protections are inadequate, and current use permits duck hunting in a place of burial sites, scar trees, cooking mounds and middens.
We contributed a submission in support of a declaration under the Federal cultural protection legislation – the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Heritage Protection Act, or ATSIHPA – for stronger protection for Lake Boort, to enable the preservation of Dja Dja Wurrung culture and for cultural tourism and enriching in the future.
