Native foods and botanicals business grants

A flexible, culturally responsive grant program to support Traditional Owner groups to develop native food and botanicals businesses.

Traditional Owners have a leading role to play in Victoria’s emerging native food and botanicals industry.

This industry can benefit the Victorian economy, sustain the health of Country, and bring cultural, social and economic benefits to Traditional Owner groups – but it needs thoughtful planning, good investment, and respectful collaboration.

Djakitjuk Djanga is a grant program funded by Agriculture Victoria and facilitated by the Federation. In 2021, it provided 13 Aboriginal businesses and organisations with grants to expand and trial commercial production of native plants – breaking down barriers to participation in the native food and botanicals economy, and ensuring the development of a culturally authentic industry.

Djakitjuk Djanga is a Dja Dja Wurrung word meaning Country’s food.

Native food and botanicals strategy

The Traditional Owner Native Food and Botanicals Strategy outlines key reforms needed to ensure Traditional Owners can lead and participate in the native food and botanicals industry.
