Submission to the inquiry into racism, hate and violence directed at Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples

Systemic racism prevents Traditional Owners from making decisions for and meeting their obligations to Country – but investing in Traditional Owner Corporations, as culturally safe and authoritative spaces, could help reduce racist harm.

We contributed a submission to the parliamentary inquiry into the nature and extend of racist harm against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Less-discussed than individual experiences of racism, but just as harmful, systemic racism attacks the organisations mob establish for self-governance, which harms whole communities. Yet these organisations are what help promote cohesion, reconciliation, and a more just future.
