2021 Independent Review of Victoria’s Wildlife Act 1975

The Federation welcomed the opportunity to contribute a submission to the Independent Review of Victoria’s Wildlife Act 1975: the first time the 50-year-old law had been updated, and an opportunity to better reflect contemporary views and values in protecting native wildlife.

Our submission focused on how reforming the Wildlife Act could contribute to Traditional Owner groups’ self-determination: by improving rights in and access to Country’s fauna resources, integrating a holistic Traditional Owner worldview into natural resource management, and embedding the principles of UNDRIP.
